My “Why”

Writer: Sarina Beasley, PT, DPTSarina Beasley, PT, DPT

Hello, everyone!

Welcome to Pittsburgh Pelvic Health - a place of education on the female body that will hopefully not only connect with you, but light a fire within you to share with others.

All too many times, I’ve spoken with women who have very little connection with their bodies. Women who rely on other people to tell them what's going on ‘down there’- physical therapists, gynecologists, urologists, midwives, OBs, partners. I’m a firm believer that no one should know more about my body than me, especially my pelvic region.

What is my “why”?

Simply put, because women deserve better. Women deserve to know what is normal, when something is an issue, and how to fix it. We deserve the knowledge to care for our bodies the best way possible.

The birth of my Instagram account @the.smiling.vagina was inspired by a young woman that I was evaluating for painful sex. I used the term “labia” in conversation and she stopped me. She looked me square in the face and said she had no clue what I was talking about. That did it for me.

Thoughts running through my mind- What kind of education are women receiving to become familiar with their bodies? How can I help to make this information available?

My personal mission

To help women understand how their bodies work and to provide the best possible care for them.

My “why” is because I want you to be as knowledgeable about your body as I am. I want you to have the confidence to recognize when you’re doing the right thing, when there is a real issue that needs to be addressed, and how to live a normal healthy life with your pelvis.

Welcome to my world ❤️

Welcome to Pittsburgh Pelvic Health.

Cheers!
