What is dry needling, and how does it relate to pelvic health? Although the idea of needles may cause discomfort for some, dry needling is an effective technique for addressing various pelvic-related issues. This method employs a very fine gauge needle, similar to those used in acupuncture, to target trigger points in the muscles that contribute to pain and reduced functionality. Trigger points are hyperirritable areas within the fascia surrounding skeletal muscles, which can be either active and painful or inactive until treated. Dry needling can be combined with electrical stimulation to focus on specific muscle groups and decrease tissue excitability.

Dry needling treatment has been shown to help with:

  • Improving muscle activation

  • Increasing blood flow

  • Correct posture & alignment

  • Improving function & mobility

Common pelvic conditions that can be treated with dry needling include, but are not limited to, pelvic/low back/lower extremity pain, muscle spasm, constipation, urinary incontinence, and female/male sexual dysfunction.
